Is it possible, while using Sound Recorder, to listen to the input through
the speakers?

Possibly, as Vista has hidden some recording devices. Open the Sound
properties window (right click on the speaker icon in the system tray,
recording devices), then right click in the list and show disabled
devices... This (for me) show a Stereo Mix device, you may get a different
icon depending on your hardware. Adjust the settings for this and you may be
able to get loop-back from recording to playback...

Right click on the Speaker icon in the Notification Area of the Taskbar, select
Recording Devices, right click in the window and select both Show Disabled
Devices and Show Disconnected Devices, if you see something like "What U Hear"
(Creative) or "Stereo Mix" (Realtek) set it as your Default recording device.

Wouldn't doing so create an awful amount of feed back?

Only if the input was a local microphone...
