Sound problems

The sound comes out crackly and skipping. Down loaded device driver and
still get the bad sound. Didn't see any conflicting hardware conflicts.
What the best way to find out the problem.

Check in device manager that all your devices are installed w/o error
or conflict. Check that drivers are installed and recent. Also, have
you noted a general decrease in performance? i.e., do apps seem to
take longer to start, cranky mouse movements, poor graphic on video...
If so, check in device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers...
double click your Primary and Secondary controllers and check in
properties (advanced settings) to see what transfer mode is being
used. Should be DMA, but if they have been changed to PIO that may be
your culprit. Post here again the result.

Have you added any new hardware? what file types are the sound?
