Sound problems using Pentax Optio S4

When I connect the Optio to the computer, via USB, and playback I have no
problems. Both sound and picture are perfect.

However, when I drag the clip into the Storyboard and play it back from
there, the picture is perfect, but the sound is totally distorted. In fact,
it plays for about two seconds, in total distortion, and then the rest of
the clip is mute.

I have tried turning down the volume (the distortion sounds like it's too
loud) but to no avail.

Is the Pentax sound file compatible with Movie Maker?

How can I fix this problem?

Thanks.

D.

The camera stores the video clip as a Motion-JPEG file, which needs a
specialized codec to run it. The codec may run fine with the ACDSee software
that came with the camera, but not work with MM2.

Try using ACDSee to save it to another format that works.

PapaJohn,

Many thanks.

I was trying to avoid using ACDSee altogether as I don't like the way it
attaches itself to everything on one's harddrive. But, I guess I'll have to
use some of it for the video sound.

PapaJohn,

The Pentax file is listed in Properties as an AVI Video File. The Audio bit
is listed as a PCM file.

Real Player, Windows Media Player and Movie Maker can all play the file
perfectly.

The problem is that, when the file is dragged into the MM Storyboard, the
sound file is corrupted.

I checked in MM's supported file types and PCM isn't listed.

How can I change it to something that MM can use?

I have checked ACDSee and there are a few conversion options, but I don't
know which one to choose.

Many thanks.

Just had a look at your website and I noticed the bit about codecs.

I opened them up and I saw, at the bottom of the list of 11, that there was
a Microsoft PCM Converter.

I checked that it was switched on and raised its priority from 11 to 1.

It didn't make any difference to the playback in Storyboard. It's still
distorted.

I'm totally flummoxed now! ;-(

Any ideas?

Thanks.

DM,

I'll wait for someone else who uses your camera model, ACDSee or Motion JPEG
files to help. I haven't used any of the 3 and have only the specs to go by.

If you have a few choices of conversion in ACDSee, maybe try each to see how
they work, while waiting for more help.
