Sound problems on A8N-SLI

I just installed this board a few days ago. Tried the realtek sounddrivers
which is finding
random devices when I connect my speakers to the rear panel.

With nvidias drivers, the test does give static noise, when I connect the
speakers to the
grey plug, but no sound, connected to the green plug, I don't get anything.

Does anyone have a clue of what could be wrong?

Make sure the two jumpers are present on the FP_AUDIO header.

See item 13 on page 2-28 of the user manual, entitled
"Front Panel Audio Connector". If the jumpers are missing, or you
are using non-Intel-compatible front panel audio jacks on your
computer case, that would explain why the green jack is dead.

The jumpers have to be present, to forward the audio signal to
the green jack. Plugging four wires from an Intel compatible
headphone/microphone interface, in place of the two jumpers, routes
the left and right signals to the green jack on the back of the
computer. If you aren't using front panel audio, make sure to
put the two jumpers back, as shown in the picture in the manual.

I had similar problems with my rear speakers and the grey socket. Only one
rear speaker played sound, then that went away. I uninstalled everything,
made sure nothing was left behind (Beyond Compare comparison between system
and image back up) and then I installed these drivers which are newer than
those on Asus web site, problem solved, proper sound through rear speakers.

Like all Realtek drivers they make a mess of installing stuff where they
shouldn't (in system32 folder for instance!) but they work very nicely except
the equaliser doesn't work with CDs.

Always a good idea to read the manual, but in this case, you shouldn't
have needed to because those jumpers should have been factory
installed. Weren't they?
