Sound problems, Error with dssenh.dll, and error Code 8009001D Wit

Hello Everybody, I hope someone can help me here, Before I start with the
problems I'm facing, I should tell you That I'm using a windows home basic
edition of vista (32 bit, and OEM).

Yesterday I came accross some problems, when I think I did nothing in
particular, first when I started my computer as usual, I saw tha there's no
sound !! I checked everything and it looked ok, to be sure I reinstalled the
drivers (realtek high def audio) but still nothing. then when I opened google
chrome, this message came up: C:\Windows\system32\dssenh.dll is either not
designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.

So I thought about doing a system restore, after it was done, everything
seemed fine, but when I restarted the computer the same problems came (no
sound, and error message when opening chrome, I didn't try with other
explorers). I tried to do system restores many times but always the same, it
works on the first boot, the problems come back on the second boot.

Now, When I tried to install an updtae through windows update, it wouldn't
and it gives me error message Code 8009001D (I guess it started at the same
time, because I didn't try before).

I hope someone can help me with this issue, I posted all these problems in
the same thread because they happened at the same time (and I think they
might be related).

Hi, RooNiL.

My stock and rock-solid Win7 Ultimate x64 has the file
C:\Windows\system32\dssenh.dll, dated 7/13/2009 at 07:43 PM, 190,880 bytes.
So, yes, it was designed to run on Windows. I've never run Google Chrome at
all - or even seen it run.

There is a chance, of course, that the file on your computer has been
damaged in some way. You should run the System File Checker (sfc /scannow).
SFC compares each file to a "known good" copy and fixes any missing or
damaged ones that it finds.

When you tell us how this turns out, we can offer suggestions for what to do
next. Be sure to include any error messages, verbatim.

Hi RC,

First thanks for the reply, so I tried what you told me to do, and there
seems to be a problem also, when I try to run sfc /scannow nothing happens
(maybe a window appears and disapears in less than a second), the same thing
when I try to run it as administrator.

Should I try this in safe mode?

So here is an update,

I did the scan in safe mode, it scanned but nothing happened at the end
(there wasn't even a msg within the window saying what it has done, only
percentage).

So I made a backup of my dssenh.dll file, and replaced it with another, I
got from a friend !!

And now, I have no error messages concerning this dll, and updates are
working.

But I still have the sound problem.

ps; sorry I have forgot that, but, There's also a software called Keyboard
Manager (it comes with HP laptops) which stops working when starting windows.
and the problem still exists now, so I guess it's not related to this dll.

Hi, RooNiL.

Thanks for the report back.

Since I don't have that HP hardware or software, I'll let someone else take
it from here. Your best plan might be to start a new thread so to focus on
the unsolved problems with no distraction from what has already been fixed.
