Sound Problem

Using a Dell 2400 computer with Windows XP with all the updates. The sound
on the computer comes on by itself randomly. I turn it off but it will turn
itself back on. how can I stop this?
 
When I turned on the computer first thing this morning and went to email the
sound was on. It was off last night.
