sound problem in vista

Today it's my first day running Vista home premium and i have problem with
sound that make me working on pc for over 8 hours. My pc is core2duo 6400,
mobo asus p5pl2 and my soynd card is onboard. The icon of sound is ok, the
media player 11 looks ok the bar of sounds levels mouve correctly but i can't
hear anything. Is ther a solution????? pls hlp

Can we assume that you have amplified speakers plugged into the correct
(lime green) port?

Actually with the new 7 channel stuff, it might not be the lime green one.

Have you opened the control panel for your audio card and told it "which" output jack the
speakers are plugged into?
