Sound on boot up

I have recently installed SP2 for Windows XP home edition
and since the "Start Windows" sound no longer plays.

I have checked in Sounds and Audio devices and the sound
is not corrupted or missing. I ahve also checked with
someone else who has installed SP2 on XP home edition and
they have the same problem. They are also using a
different manufacturer PC as well.

Any idea's?

Thanks for the link. Good Website. Still doesn't work
though I'm afraid. Silly, obscure problem really, but
annoying none the less.
