sound not working after installing windows xp

i just upgraded from windows ME to windows XP and my
sound worked before and after installing XP, my sound
doens't work. My media player shows that the songs are
wokring and stuff like that but no sound comes out of my
speakers. I've gone through the troubleshooter and my
problem is still not solved. I also tried installing new
drivers but im not sure that i installed the right ones.
My sound card is a sound blaster live! value, its an OEM,
and if any one could help me id greatly appreciate it
because i dont want to have to go back to ME, Thank you

Just some ideas
Right click my Computer and select Manage
Under Services and Applications select Services
Scroll down to Windows Audio and make sure it is set to AUTOMATIC
