Hello,

I have a clean install of WinXP Pro on a Core 2 Duo E6600 with 4Gb of RAM.
The machine has an Asus EN7600 GS Silent video card with 512Mb. The system
is capable of HD sound.

About 70% of the time I log in the sound is garbled. This causes system
performance to be very poor and I have to re-boot. Most times the sound is
fine when I first log in but starts being distorted after just a few minutes
of work or play. Anyone...any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You give us info..........but not on the sound device that you are using and
having problems with.
Mobo?? Sound card?? Build in sound???

I apologize. The sound is on-board the Asus P5N32-SLI Premium mother board.
I have installed the drivers for the sound and looked for updates as well. I
have heard there may be an issue with WinXP and HD sound but can find nothing
on this.

Craig,

It could be a broken sound file. Did the installation of XP go smoothly? Try
re-installing XP, or ask someone to e-mail you their XP Sounds. Or you could
try and disable all Windows XP sounds on the computer (Logon, Logoff, When
you connect a device etc.) and see what happens then:

1. Go to control panel.
2. Find sounds and audio devices.
3. Click on the sounds tab.
4. Under Sound Scheme, click No Sounds
5. Click OK.
6. Reboot the computer and see what happens.

If no luck, change it back:

1. Go to control panel.
2. Find sounds and audio devices.
3. Click on the sounds tab.
4. Under Sound Scheme, click Windows Default
5. Click OK.

Let me know if it helps
Harry
