Workaround. Stop the music. Then close media player.

Hi Sharon, ok thanks.. always nice to hear from you.. You talk, you don't
just give links.. :) I did check out the links from my other response, but
didn't find any answers, that is why I posted here.. also not getting any
answers in the microsoft newsgroup either.. but I am still waiting.. thanks
again.. Rainy ps. I suppose that is what I do... just x out of it instead
of stopping the music... hmm, hadn't thought that this was what was causing
it.. :)

You're welcome, Rainy. I marked it as a workaround in my other post because
you should be able to close through the X without stopping the music.

Something, probably a small flaw in your sound drivers but possibly an
elusive software conflict, does not allow that to happen. Stopping the
music before closing is a simple "fix" if you are not having any other
troubles.

Hi Sharon.. well the problem is still continuing even when I don't have
media player open.. just listening to someones music in a stationery that I
am viewing..how about if I upgrade to media player 10.. do you have any
negative ideas about 10 or is it ok.. what I'm thinking is that hopefully
the problem is with media player 9.. hmm, I could reinstall it.. right? any
response always appreciated.. Rainy :)

I can't address the Windows Media Player question, but first try
updating your soundcard drivers. Never get drivers from Windows Update.
Get them from:

1. The card mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if onboard video; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

Hi malke..I went to device manager and opened sound, (see screenshot
embedded) and saw quite a few things there, like legacy driver, which
I never noticed before I had xp! and soundmax audio integrated
digital audio. that's the one I chose..
http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/soundmax-audio.html and I just
need some confirming if this is the correct driver... it is saved to
my desktop but will not install it until I know this is the correct
one... It asked on the page if it were on board, or not.. part of the
motherboard, is what I think they were asking.. how do I tell? any
help always appreciated.. Rainy ps. not sure if the group can see
screenshots or not, but it's easier for me this way as it' very
confusing...
I am not familiar with that website and would not use it. The soundmax
is *integrated*, which means it is part of your motherboard. This means
that you would get the drivers from one of two places:

1. If you have an OEM machine like a Dell, HP, Sony etc. you go to the
OEM's website and look for Support>Driver Downloads for your *specific*
model computer. There you will find the most recent drivers for your
soundcard (chip).

2. If you have a home-built or locally built computer (not a brand
name), you would go to the motherboard mftr.'s website and download the
latest drivers. To find out your motherboard mftr., use a free system
inventory program like Belarc Advisor or Everest:

1. When you first go to the link above, on the left is a link (in red)
to "New Users Click Here". It won't work for me because the stupid
webmaster only supports IE and I'm running Linux (the Windows machines
are still sleeping). So I would check that out first to see if there
are installation instructions.

2. Then on the drivers tab for your specific m/b, there are also links
on the left side for FAQ and Forum. I would check those out.

3. If the downloaded file doesn't unpack itself into its own folder on
the C:\ drive, make a new folder there and call it something useful
like "audio driver" and put the unzipped files there. Then look in that
folder for something like "setup.exe" and run it.

I would investigate items #1 and #2 above first.

Thanks Malke.. I went to the site to look for instructions on where to put
it.. and coudln't find anything .. so I followed your instructions on
creating a folder in program files, looking for setup.exe and found it... it
installed fine as far as I know. I also downloaded wmp10 just incase the
problem was coming from media player 9 .. so now I have a new media player
and a new driver.. if I am still having problems I guess I better look into
a new motherboard... boy I sure hate the thought of that..:) thanks again..
