I have a HP Pavilion 7950, which includes, among other things, an onboard
sound chip, VT82C686. I recently purchased a TV tuner, Hauppage Win TV GO,
which provides video but no sound. Closer examination revealed that there
was weak sound output from the tuner card, but this was not amplified by
the sound card to which it was connected by a cable, as it should have
been. When the TV card is plugged into a tape recorder microphone jack,
there is sound output from the tape recorder.
However: when I boot Linux, a CD-based distro (Knoppix), the setup works
as it should, with sound output coming from the sound card. So it must not
be a hardware problem. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting it to
work properly with XP?
