sound card doesn't work on 4GB RAM

my motherboard is Intel DG31PR

sound card doesn't work if I plug in 4GB RAM. But it works if I plug in 2GB
RAM.

is this because of the memory reservation?
i have to use XP x64?

If you are using 32bit Windows XP then read the article below::

Try adding the 3GB as mentioned in the above article to your boot.ini file.

Two people report the same problem, here. One person used Vista Business x64
and had no sound with 4GB RAM present. A second person with an unstated OS
had the same problem. So at least you are not alone.
