sound and touch pad not working

I installed Vista last night and I have some problem with my Dell 9300.
All the features of my ALPS touch pad are not working, the XP driver is not
working and I haven't seen any vista driver yet.
Anybody found some drivers?

Same thing with my sound, I have no sound at all.
The sound card is SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97

Thank you

Yvon

Have you contacted the manufacturer about Vista support? Find out if there
will be any updates or patches in the near future? I would do the same for
the SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97

In the mean time, I would send in Feedback and file a driver report request
unsing following links:

Thank you André for the fast answer. I will contact Dell immediatly.

When I go to windows Update I see that there is a driver for my sound card,
but for some reason I can't install it. I try what they told me in the help
and it's still not working. I try to reboot etc...

Anyway, I will contact Dell see what they can do.

Again,
Thank you

On my Dell Dimension 8300, my sound blaster live! 5.1 driver popped up in WU
too, installed just fine. Its possible permission issue why it won't
install. Try disabling UAC to see if it will fix the problem. Click Start >
All Programs > Accessories > Run > type in MSCONFIG > Tools (tab) > scroll
down > select "Disable UAC" > click "Launch" close Command Prompt > restart
system fro changes to take effect.

Try obtaining the drivers through Windows Update again.

Hi I was just wondering if you managed to resolve your ALPS touch pad and
SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97 driver problems.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 9300 and am thinking about trying out Windows
Vista Beta 2 but I’m worried about having driver problems that I can’t
rectify (like the ones you have had).
Currently when I run Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, it tells me that I need
to get a driver from Microsoft Update for my SigmaTel C-Major Audio. But when
I go to Windows Update, it doesn’t find any drivers. Also, Dell’s Support
section doesn’t show any new drivers as being available. Trying to update
drivers through device manager gets me nowhere either.

For the sound I haven't figure a way to make it work yet.

For the alps touch pad try this advise someone gave me:

Try installing the driver from device manager. Point the update to the
folder where the driver has been unpacked to. Should work fine

Hi! I figured out that Vista was attempting to use a generic HID-compliant
driver for my ALPS touchpad, sooooooooooo....I went to the Device Management
panel in the Control Panel, selected the "HID-Compliant mouse" or whatever
its called under "Mouse" and then right-clicked and hit Update device
Driver... then instead of using the automatic search, i used manual, and
then selected "Let me choose from the list of drivers" and to my surprise,
the drivers for the ALPS touchpad were still there but NOT BEING USED!!!
HAHA! So click on the Alps driver, hit install, and happy trails! ^^
