Try device mgr,expand the sound tree,R.click on the hardware,select,uninstall.
If you have a add-in pci sound card,dont restart,shutdown,power off,move the
card to diffrent pci slot,start computer.If its onboard,then restart as xp
wants,
it'll reinstall on restart.
