Sorting with merged Cells

Bill

When I attempt to sort a section of a spreadsheet which
has columns containing merged cells and other columns not
containing merged cells, I get the message that you must
have all of the merged cells be the same size and it wont
let me sort. Is there a method for doing sorts with some
merged cells that will work on both EXCEL 97 and EXCEL
2002?

In my opinion, merged cells was one of the worst features put into Excel.
New users of Excel get themselves into much trouble with merged cells.

Great for presentations after all the sorting, filtering, copy/pasting is
complete, but not before.

My ususal quote "merged cells are the spawn of Satan!"

If you must use them, you will have to live with the limitations you are
experiencing.

Can you un-merge and use "center across selection" instead?

Is it possible to have your sort range below the merged cells?
