Sorting/Using Autofilter in a Protected Sheet

I've protected my excel spreadsheet, and left an unprotected area wher
i can insert comments and make changes to records.

I checked the appropriate boxes to allow users to select locked o
unlocked cells, to format rows or columns and also to sort & us
autofilter.

The problem occurs once the sheet is protected. The sheet cannot b
sorted. A message pops up saying that the sheet is protected an
users will have to unprotect the sheet to use the sort function.

Anyone knows how I can protect the sheet, while allowing sorting o
records

Hi
not sure about Excel 2002 but in Excel 2003 you can set such option to
allow sorting/filtering within the dialog for 'Tools - Protection -
worksheet'

All the cells in the sort range need to be unlocked.

I like to explicitly select my range to sort. Are you letting xl guess?
