How do I sort tasks alphbetically within each category, rather than by date,
after I have arranged them by category?

If you have 2003 (you didn't bother to state the basics in your post) then
you must Sort first, then Group. It's a weird aspect of 2003.

So sort by the Date column, then drag the Categories field into the Group By
Box. You can do this in any table view (eg Simple List).

Everyone - turn on your Advanced Toolbars and learn how to use the Field
Chooser and Group by Box!!

That's marvellous - many thanks for your help. I'm new to this game, so I'm
very grateful for this very prompt service. I'd never come across the 'Group
by Box'.

Thanks again

John
