Sorting Pre-1900 dates

I have a list of pre-1900 dates that I would like to sort.
The normal SORT function doesn't seem to work. Is there
anything else I can try ?

Hi David,

Most likely the problem here is that Excel sorts post-1900 dates according
to their serial number value, but pre-1900 dates are only held as text
strings.

If your pre-1900 dates were expressed in ISO format (i.e. yyyymmdd), they
would sort correctly - though not with post-1900 dates as part of the same
sort range unless those were in ISO format also.
