sorting in a subreport

I have a report containing a sub report. This sub report
is based on a query which is sorted by date. When I open
the subreport from the reports window, it displays records
sorted by date which is what I asked it to do.
However, when I view the report containing the subreport,
I see the records in the subreport apparently sorted by
event ID and not date. I cannot find where this is
specified! Where have I gone wrong or am I missing
something?
The report and subreport are linked by 'course code' and
the sub report is grouped by location. It seems that when
I specify the grouping that the sorting by ascending date
is lost

Sorting data for a report in its record source query is a
waste of time. Report sorting should be specified in the
report's Sorting and Grouping window (View menu).
