sorting a range with conditional formatting

I have a large spreadsheet with conditional formatting in some of the cells
within the rows. When I select a range and sort it, the conditional
fomatting does not stay with the cell. My spreadsheet then has cells with
the wrong conditional formatting in them. I have made sure that I have no
hidden rows or columns, no merged cells. Why won't the conditional
formatting move with the cell it was formatted for?

I think the problem here is that you have conditional formatting in "some of
the cells within the rows". You should probably have the formatting applied
to ALL of the cells in your range if you plan on doing any sorting.

Perhaps you could provide more details on your data, formulas and
conditions. Then we might be able to suggest a solution.

I suspect that the conditional formatting is based on the cells position in
the worksheet. For example all odd numbered rows are shaded. When you sort
the range you are changing the cells position in the worksheet. Could you
post an example of the formula used for the conditional formatting?
