Sort Order in Address Book

Can someone explain to me what the difference is between "default File As
order" and "default Full Name order" on the Tools | Options | Preferences |
Contacts | Contact Options window in Outlook 2000 ?

I suspect it is one of these settings that is messing up my Address Book
since I re-installed.(don't recall how it was set before). Some of the names
show up Last name first and others show up first last. Rather annoying when
looking for one of many "Smiths" to have some as Smith, John B. and some as
John A. Smith.

Currently I have them set as (which is what I *think* it defaulted to as I
don't recall setting these attributes):
Default File As: Last, First
Default Full Name: First (Middle) Last

Do I need to assign both to last, first? Frankly, I've not been able to
figure out the difference between the two options even after reading the ?
for the entry.

TIA,

You must post your mail support mode for anyone to tell you how to control
the sort order for the Address Book:
Corporate/Workgroup mode:
Tools menu > Services > Highlight the Outlook Address Book service > Click
Properties > Set sort order

Internet Mail Only:
Tools menu > Address Book > View menu > Sort by

The settings you choose for the Full Name field will have no effect. The
settings you choose for the File As... field will affect the sort order only
if you choose to sort the Address Book by the File As... field. The settings
you choose for the File As... field will only affect newly created Contacts,
not existing ones.

It's Internet Only, Russ. And per Tools | ADdress book | View menu |Sort by
it is set at by name, last & ascending. BUT some of them still sort by first
name. I'm at a complete loss as to why and/or how to fix it.. Any ideas?

IMO does not use the Outlook Address Book.

What? I must be missing something here. IF Internet Mail does NOT use
Outlook Address Book then what starts when I click the Address Book Icon?
Hmmm.... I am using Outlook 2000. Has something changed since then in this
regard?

As far as I've been able to tell the parsing of the contact's names are
correct -- at least in those that I've checked. Any other ideas?

TIA

IMO uses the Windows Address Book because it doesn't have the MAPI support
required for the Outlook Address Book. That's why it behaves so differently.
