Sort of OT - Configuring Windows 2k to support FP

Mr B

Howdy,

I'm formatting my extra PC and am going to put WIndows 2000 Server on it. I want to set up this PC
so that I can use it as a test web server to play around with things. If everything works well I
may use it in a stand along environment and hook 5 or 6 PCs up to it for a local website.

The goal is I want to use the Survey feature in FP2002. I know I need IIS (5 I'm assuming) and
Sharepoint Team Service.

Just looking for info on how to go about setting up this PC. Some of the main questions are:

What order do I need to install the software (Win2k, IIS, Sharepoint?)
Do I need to upgrade each prior to installing the next?
Where do I get IIS 5 from? Is it on the CD or a download somewhere?
Do I also need to insatll the FP Extensions along with Sharepoint or does it do both?
Where exactly is Sharepoint on the CD?

Any other tips, tricks, suggestoins, etc.....

Thanks!

Yes, that's the order.
Do I need to upgrade each prior to installing the next?

No. You can run Windows Update after everything is
installed.
Where do I get IIS 5 from? Is it on the CD or a
download somewhere?

It comes with Windows 2000 Server. You install it through
Add/Remove Windows Components.
Do I also need to insatll the FP Extensions along with
SharePoint or does it do both?

SharePoint Team Services includes the FrontPage 2002
Server Extensions. It's all one install.
Where exactly is Sharepoint on the CD?

It's on the FrontPage 2002 CD.
Any other tips, tricks, suggestions, etc.....

Are you aware that SharePoint Team Services is deprecated
software? The replacement is Windows SharePoint Services,
which uses much different technology -- so different that
you can't migrate or upgrade any Team Sites you create in
the Team Services product.

Windows SharePoint Services is a component of Windows
Server 2003, and only runs on that platform.

Well, if you have a free version of 2003 Server you want to send me, let me know and I'll get you my
address. Otherwise I have to work with what I have since I can't afford to go buy it just for
testing. :)

I would if I could but I can't so i won't.

Lack of a development and test environment (other than Windows
Server 2003 itself) for Windows SharePoint Services is a common
impediment. I'm not sure why a limited version can't run on, say,
Windows XP Professional. Perhaps Windows Server 2003 has some
features that WSS requires, and that Win XP Pro lacks.

That said, most WSS development seems to be for intranets in large
organizations. Setting up a Windows Server 2003 test server in that
environment is usually more feasible than it might be for an
individual.
