hi
not with the built in standard excel sort.
custom sorts are usually done with a helper column. you could assign a key
to the helper column to ID the group(s) then use the helper column as primary
sort. this would keep the group(s) togeather. post examples of your data.
perhaps i can be more helpful.
Copying didn't really show what I'm working with very well but...
I do have a "helper column" as you mention with the date. This gets me
close to what I need. The drawback is that the bottom row is a total and
after sorting according to date it is not always on the bottom, and the other
products change order as well. Another problem is that the overall total is
taken by adding up the daily totals, the daily totals are every 9 rows.
This could be easily changed to if necessary, but it must be consistent.
After sorting ther aren't.
oooo.
real problem.
"bottom row is a total ".....don't allow excel to select the sort area.
select manually.
"the daily totals are every 9 rows"....with daily totals mixed in, you can
sort the entire data range. each would have to be sorted seperatelly.
OR......... use sub totals to have excel add the daily totals. on the menu
bar>data>subtotals. that way you can sort by date then sub total by date. and
it would give you a grand total also.
