sort by subtotals?

Fletcher

hello excel gurus -

I have data that I have used the "subtotals" function with, and now I only
want to sort the subtotal amounts (not the individual data that it took to
come up with the subtotals, just sort by the subtotals themselves). However,
it doesn't work... I "sucked up" all of the data (hitting the minus symbol
on the right) so now only the subtotal are listed... and I want to sort just
on those "subtotaled up" values.

I hope this makes sense,

thanks!

Can you copy the data to another sheet to sort it? If yes:

With the data "sucked up," select the entire data range.
Then go to edit, go to, special, visible cells only (this
will select only the subtotals, not the individual data).

Then copy and paste to a new sheet. Since only the
subtotal rows will copy, you will be able to sort it.
