DON'T EVER BUY A SONY COMPUTER(FREE TRADE SCREWEN) Buy AMERICAN!!!!
Sorry.. I purchased a SONY Vaio Desktop computer with PREINSTALLED
Windows XP Home Edition and SONY'S Recovery CD'S with Windows XP.My Recovery
CD'S got Damaged I tried to order a New set of Recovery CD'S from SONY only
to be informed SONY no longer have(Support) The Recovery CD'S that came with
the NEW Computer Less than 8 Months Old and Told me to go BUY a copie of
Windows XP Home Edition on CD ($200.00+Tax).SONY should have had to supplied
a copie of Windows XP Home Edition(FULL VERSION) with there computers!!!
How is it that MICROSOFT CORP. allowed SONY CORP to include a copied version
of MICROSOFTS Windows XP Home Edition with there computers knowing MICROSOFT
cannot be in no way responseable for copied version of Windows(OR WOULD THAT
BE A PIRIATE VERSION OF A WINDOWS PRODUCT???).....
That might explane the reason from the (1st to the 268 time I used SONY'S
RECOVERY CD'S) IT never recovered properly only worse each time and MICROSOFT
CORP. kept Sending me MAIL and INQUIRING that my SONY COMPUTER my be a
PIRIATE VERSION even though it had a GENIUNE Windows Product Sticker and a
COA Number on it..... I Checked my COA Number on MICROSOFT'S Web site and
they kept telling me that COA Number was not a VALID COA # and I might have a
Piriate Version......THE BAD THING ABOUT THAT
WAS I WAS TO BLAME FOR IT and SONY (Even after several attemps even under
WARRENTY) Done NOTHING but Give You The RunAround (Telling you any further
QUESTION'S would COST YOU $29.99 EACH)...... I had to send it to SONY to be
REPAIRED after having it 3 MONTHS only to recieve it back 2 months later in
worse shape than when I sent it and the invoice show where they replace
parts(with a 90 day warrenty)but did'nt say what and SONY CORP said they had
no record of any parts being replaced..... READ THE FINE PRINT ON SONY
COMPUTERS!!
IT SAY'S SONY CORP IS ONLY LIABALE FOR THE FRAME OF THE COMPUTER AND 2
PEICES OF HARDWARE ONLY... Everything else is CONTRACTED OUT 1 Company
build's the CPU and Another Contracted COMPANY or Licensened Individual does
the PROGRAMING..... HA!! HA!!! SONY SCREWED ME and MY $2650.00 COMPUTER is
not only in very bad condition but NOW I LEARN IT'S A PIRIATED COMPUTER made
by SONY CORP and sold by BEST BUY....... AND it get's better I 'LL BET
THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT EITHER.....
MICROSOFT what should I do and how can you help (PIRIATE OR NOT??) if so
what will be done??

THANK YOU

you have no recourse with microsoft so forget that, if
out of warranty with sony and best buy,you might send it
to the attorney general in the state you bought it in as
it sounds like a lemon law might apply.and they may be
interested in how best buy sold you a pirated copy of
windows, you might at the least be able to make sonys and
best buys life more difficult to make up for the
difficulty you have had.

Shhhh. Remain calm. Ranting in here will accomplish nothing. This is a peer
support forum for Windows XP technical support, not a direct line to
Microsoft - although what you're describing below is not a Microsoft issue
in the first place.

BTW, where do you think the components inside, say, a Dell PC, are made? I'd
be willing to bet it isn't Omaha. And when you call Dell, or HP, you may
well be directed to an overseas call center. Etc.

Sorry.. I purchased a SONY Vaio Desktop computer with PREINSTALLED

Did you read the fine print carefully before you bought this to ascertain
what Sony would and would not support/provide? Do any research on
laptops/PCs, read reviews, talk to others, get recommendations from trusted
colleagues/friends/advisors? Before dropping a bundle on anything like a
computer, that's a must.

That said, I agree that Sony support is pretty useless. Did you try to
escalate the call to a supervisor? Talk to customer service? Write a letter
to customer service?
How is it that MICROSOFT CORP. allowed SONY CORP to include a copied
version of MICROSOFTS Windows XP Home Edition with there computers
knowing MICROSOFT cannot be in no way responseable for copied version
of Windows...

That's what OEM means. Sony is no different in this way from any hardware
mfr. When you buy Windows, Office (etc) bundled with a new PC, the
manufacturer is responsible for all support - not Microsoft. That's why OEM
copies of operating systems/software are so much less expensive than the
retail products. Caveat emptor.
(OR WOULD THAT BE A PIRIATE VERSION OF A WINDOWS
PRODUCT???).....
No.

That might explane the reason from the (1st to the
268 time I used SONY'S RECOVERY CD'S) IT never recovered properly

I thought they were damaged?
only worse each time and MICROSOFT CORP. kept Sending me MAIL and
INQUIRING that my SONY COMPUTER my be a PIRIATE VERSION even though
it had a GENIUNE Windows Product Sticker and a COA Number on it.....

How on earth did Microsoft pick you out to send mail to? Without seeing the
message (and Internet mail headers within it), I still have to wonder
whether it's actually from Microsoft.
I Checked my COA Number on MICROSOFT'S Web site and they kept telling
me that COA Number was not a VALID COA # and I might have a Piriate
Version......THE BAD THING ABOUT THAT
WAS I WAS TO BLAME FOR IT and SONY (Even after several attemps even
under WARRENTY) Done NOTHING but Give You The RunAround (Telling you
any further QUESTION'S would COST YOU $29.99 EACH)......

Again, call Sony's customer service. And be polite and calm. You need to
make people *want* to help you.
I had to
send it to SONY to be REPAIRED after having it 3 MONTHS only to
recieve it back 2 months later in worse shape than when I sent it and
the invoice show where they replace parts(with a 90 day warrenty)but

being replaced.....

OK, now you've thoroughly confused me. I have no idea what's going on. Not
that I could help you with it anyway.
READ THE FINE PRINT ON SONY COMPUTERS!!

You need to read the fine print on *everything* in life, my friend.
IT SAY'S SONY CORP IS ONLY LIABALE FOR THE FRAME OF THE COMPUTER AND
2 PEICES OF HARDWARE ONLY... Everything else is CONTRACTED OUT 1
Company build's the CPU and Another Contracted COMPANY or Licensened
Individual does the PROGRAMING.....

What programming does hardware require? And again, of course there are a
boatload of hardware manufacturers responsible for each component inside
your computer. Same with your car. Do you think Ford actually makes
batteries?
HA!! HA!!! SONY SCREWED ME and
MY $2650.00 COMPUTER is not only in very bad condition but NOW I
LEARN IT'S A PIRIATED COMPUTER made by SONY CORP and sold by BEST
BUY.......

You haven't demonstrated that, and if you bought a genuine Vaio from Best
Buy, and not some guy in a van who claimed to work at the loading dock for
Best Buy, it probably *is* genuine.
AND it get's better I 'LL BET THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO
ABOUT IT EITHER..... MICROSOFT what should I do and how can you
help (PIRIATE OR NOT??) if so what will be done??

Microsoft can't help you. This is not a Microsoft issue. And this group is
not a direct line to Microsoft, anyway - it's a technical support group
"staffed" by volunteers, regular end-users, techs - not MS staff (although
they may drop in from time to time).

If you are getting nowhere with Sony, go to Best Buy and complain. And just
don't buy another Sony if this has soured you on their PCs. Personally, I
don't recommend their PCs either, but that said, I've never had as bad an
experience as you claim to have had.

Note also that it's very difficult to read your post, what with the run-on
sentences and strange capitalization--regardless of the contents. A lot of
people will dismiss/ignore it.

When you post in here, please learn to post clearly and concisely - and note
that this is a group for technical support, not customer service issues you
may be having with stores/vendors.

See http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm for some general advice, and good luck
with your issue.

There is no such computer. Best you can find is an assembled in America
computer.

They covered there end of the bargain, they gave you a means to recover,
but you damaged it. You screwed. What's not American about that?!

MS doesn't want to be responsible for the copies sold with a computer
from any company. Not Sony, not dell, not the local computer shop.
That might explane the reason from the (1st to the

Gotta love PA! But quite frankly, you shouldn't believe everything you
read, especially when it comes from Microsoft. They purposely misword
their messages to trick the ignorant into buyng more copies of software
than they need.
I Checked my COA Number on MICROSOFT'S Web site and they kept telling
me that COA Number was not a VALID COA # and I might have a Piriate

Buyer beware! You could have gotten a much better computer for all that
money!

LOL! MS is laughing all the way to the bank, sucker! Next time, do
some research into you computer purchase beforehand. It's a little too
late to bitchin' about your purchase 8 months after-the-fact!
