Sony DSC-S85

Recently bought a Sony DSC-S85, took some photos and
tried to load them to my Dell PC running Windows XP. The
message I get is, "USB device not recognized". Going
further it tells me that there are no drivers installed
for this device, even though the directions that came
with the camera stated that I didn't need to load any
drivers if I was running XP. Anyone ever run into
something like this?

I believe some Sony cameras come with two firmware modes - one for MS (mass
storage) and the other for PTP. Either mode will work for you, but how they
work is different.

First verify the camera has the latest Sony firmware on it (I believe there
were several releases of this for this particular device). Update the camera
firmware.

Then try the following:
1. Disconnect the device from your computer
2. Uninstall any software that had to do with this device
3. Reboot
4. Plug the camera into your computer.

If it's an MS device, it will show up in Explorer as a hard drive letter and
you are to treat it as such.
If it's in PTP device mode, the camera should show up in DevMan in under
Imaging Devices.

good luck!
