When I connect my DSC-S70 Sony camera via a USB connection to the computer, turn it on, go to MY Computer and click on the USB icon, Windows freezes up. If I go to My Computer first and then turn on the camera and rapidly click through the folders, I can sometimes get the thumbnails of the pictures on the camera But then I can do nothing with them without Windows freezing. The only way I can unfreeze it is to turn the camera off. HELP

Go to your graphics card manufacturer's web site and look around for an updated
driver.
Sony has support

Mary,
First, thanks for trying to help--
I have SP1a installed and " the driver hangs" seems to apply to Windows 2000 not XP. When I read the symptoms it really didn't sound like what I have. Mine hangs up or freezes ( are those terms the same?) when I try to do something with the pictures. copy, print, export or anything.

This is a Sony answer:
The Sony® digital camera may no longer operate after installing a third-party USB
device driver on the computer. This issue can occur when the USB driver for the
third-party device overwrites some of the files from the Sony® USB driver for the
digital camera. To resolve this issue, uninstall the third-party USB device driver
and then reinstall the Sony® USB driver.
Are you using a memory stick?

Mary,
Thank you for your patience with me.
Yes, I'm using a memory stick but I haven't reformated it that I know of. I've four memory sticks and none of them work. Third party USB device ---hmmmm--not quite sure what you mean. The only USB device I have installed recently is Creative's Sound Blaster Extigy. Are you wanting me to uninstall it? I really don't install a Sony driver (no intallation CD with it), I just plug it in.

Ross,
If you read the Microsoft article, it suggests you intialize the Memory Stick with
your camera. Another article:

It could be your Sound Blaster USB overwrote Sony's. Did you have problems before the
install?

Mary,
I don't think the initiaizing or formating is the problem. I haven't lost the pictures, I just can't do anything with them. I'm going to try uninstalling Sound Blaster and see what happens. I don't think I had the problem before I installed it. (last December) I'll let you know---
Thanks
, Ros

Mary,
You did it !! Everything works just fine with the camera and pictures now that I uninstalled SB Extigy. Now, how do I get my sound back without screwing up my pictures again? Do I just reinstall SB and hope? Or is there a better way
