One method to pull directly to Excel is to use Tushar Mehta's Excel Add-in.
This allows filtering and sorting once you have the data in Excel.

http://www.tushar-mehta.com/ scroll down to Add-ins>Directory Listing.

Download the ZIP file and un-zip to your Office\Library folder.

Go to Tools>Add-ins and checkmark Tushar's add-in.

TM will show up on your Worksheet Menu Bar.

Click it and browse to the folder of songs.

Personally, I prefer to use Jim Cone's fine Add-in called "ListFiles" for
this sort of thing..........
It returns the filename, filetype, filesize, date, a total count of the
files, and a hyperlink to each file.

went to the site and did as you instructed and can't seem to find the TM in

Alternatively, for the DOS holdovers:
1. Open a command prompt window, and change to the proper drive
2. Type DIR > mp3list.txt and press Enter
3. Open mp3list.txt from Excel

If you have extracted Directory.xla to your Office\Library folder and loaded
it through Tools>Add-ins you should see TM just to the right of Help on the
menu.

Re-trace.....perhaps you missed a step.

With Excel closed..........

Same here, I'm also using Jim's product.
It's a real blast <g>, with excellent results !

nothing wrong with the other suggestions but John Walkenbach has also done
this specifically for mp3s, adding a twist of using namespace information to
extract details like bit rate and song length.
