something corrupted in nubering

when using numbers feature to number paragraphs, when I hit #1, then #2, and
want to go to either a. or (a), I can't get it to indent. What do I do to
correct this?

Try using Shift+Alt+Right arrow. That's usually the most reliable method.

Thank you Cindy. But, it didn't correct the problem. I hit 1., then 2.
the hit shift, alt, and right arrow and all it did was slant the cursor.
this is so frustrating. all I want to do is number these paragraphs. any
other ideas?

It sounds as if you have not defined (or applied) an outline-numbered list.
