Someone's computer has a virus and is attacking my e-mail, is there a
way to determine who?

Since yesterday i've gotten about 100 messages that are obviously
being sent from a virus. The shown addresses are from places like
Security Department, Microsoft, Technical Assistance, etc. All the
usual stuff.

I was wondering if there is a way I can determine who's computer has a
virus, and it sending e-mails to all their address book contacts.

I'd prefer not to open the messages if possible. Is the real address
or Internet provider listed in the header information anywhere?

Thanks.

stick the raw text into www.spamcop.net - if you can be bothered. Or
read this NG about SWEN.A .. if there are really 1.5 million infected
PCs out there then you are wasting your time. 8<,

Sounds like you're getting beaten up by the swen virus, just like the
rest of us.

If you don't have antivirus software, get some. If you do, make sure
your signatures are kept up to date.

Delete the suspicious emails and make the attachments are deleted too.

Yes, I was reading about that since I posted. It does sound like
that.

Does that mean my machine is infected, or just someone that has my
e-mail address?

My virus signatures updated automatically today (I use InnoculateIT),
and it scanned virus free. I also didn't see any sign of in the
system registry as the Symantec instructions said to look in.

Just that someone (a lot of someones) have your email address, and are
infected themselves. Obviously we all know (or 'are known to') a whole
lot of the great clueless masses.

Looks like this one may actually be picking up 'reply to' addresses (as
opposed to 'from', which is spoofed) on newsgroup messages on PCs
somehow, since I'm getting emails to addresses which are not normally
revealed (but show up in the 'reply to' fields).

I'm thinking the same thing. I use this email pretty much exclusively
for newsgroups, and I've got it munged in the From field. It's only
available in the reply to. What a pain in the butt!
