Hello,

I have a very simple website. I found a website on the
Internet that said you could configure your home computer
using a cable modem to host your own website. So I did.
The document talked me through setting everything:

1) getting ip from my cable company (cable modem)
2) free dns from from free dns website
3) Using zoneedit to forward inquiries/mail to my yahoo
account.

Works great! But lately I have noticed my modem going a
lot when I am not doing anything. I get emails from
postmasters saying I sent something and that person
doesn't exist. It is porn.

I think someone is somehow using my modem/pc to relay and
send out porn. I am using Windows XP and have set up the
Windows XP firewall and closed all ports. What else can
I do?

Thanks for the help.

tony from a fellow home hoster i'd suggest that you invest in a good router
... not to bash M$ .. but their firewall is sh**
dlink routers are real nice and extremely hard to break through
other than that all ya gotta do is have your ip changed and secure yourself
with a router with just the ports you need fowarded (virtual server in dlink
routers) to the internal ip address of the server and that's the only open
port that anyone can see.. also a good measure is to discard pings from the
wan side... this will make you invisiable to people doing scans and all ...
i've authorized certain government agencies to attempt to break in to my
server and add things and they couldnt even see anything other than the site
that's on it and what i have set up to be open to the outside world .. mind
you i have about 6 ports open and unless you know exactly what they are
you're SOL if ya try to scan it ..

so in short .. get a router .. preferably dlink as i've had a very long
highly satisfying experiance with them
