Somebody, please help!!! I am using Outlook 2002 with XP Pro and all
updates.
The problem started where I would lock up/freeze/unrespond from time
to time. It now is at the point where as soon as I open it, I get
lockedup and the statement "NOT RESPONDING" comes up in the titel bar.
Can anyone please help me fix this problem??

Thanks.

1) try running scanpst.exe on your Personal Folder

2) try renaming outcmd.dat to .old and restart Outlook. All the Toolbars
will reset then. This is quite a common problem with Outlook . The default
location for this file is:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

3) try recreating the profile in Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles

4) try running Outlook with the /safe switch from your Start-> Run window.
When this works run Help-> Detect and Repair

5) try disabling individual add-ons in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button
Advanced E-mail Options...

Roady,
Thank you for responding so fast.

1) try running scanpst.exe on your Personal Folder
No effect

2) try renaming outcmd.dat to .old and restart Outlook. All the Toolbars
will reset then. This is quite a common problem with Outlook . The default
location for this file is:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook
No Effect

3) try recreating the profile in Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles
Can you explain this a little bit more?
4) try running Outlook with the /safe switch from your Start-> Run window.
When this works run Help-> Detect and Repair
I ran this several times and each time it locked up, reran it and it
asked to run in safe mode to run the Detect and Repair. Ran the
detect and repair, said it completed and fix minor problems. Run
Outlook and it still locks up.
5) try disabling individual add-ons in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button
Advanced E-mail Options...
I don't have any add-ons at this time.

Any other suggestions would be greatly apprecitaed.

3) The mailaccount settings are kept within the profile. By default the
first profile is named Outlook. You can remove it or create a second one to
determine if that solves your problem. Make sure you've got your account
settings by hand.

4) If it works in safe mode it is most likely caused by an add-in. Does your
virusscanner integrates with Outlook? If so disable that integration and try
again. In addition you might want to rename extend.dat to extend.old. This
file holds the add-in settings

Roady,
I really appreciate all the info you have given me. Unfortuently now
of them fixed the problem. I want to totally delete MS Outlook, I do
mean completely, then make a copy of the one I have on my office desk
and install it at the home PC. I have tried to uninstall all of the
MS Outlook before, but it still gave me all the old information.
Can you tell me how to unload the program completely and then make a
dup of the office and install that?

Thanks again for all the help.

Well you've practically done that already by now. One thing you can do it to
remove the Outlook registry entries from your profile. To do this back-up
the following key and the delete it from the registry;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook

There is a offcln.exe file on your installation disk which helps you to
completely remove Office XP
