Some services NOT running

I have WIN XP SP 2 and when going to check my Secrurity Center it poped up
but showed no items. It said it was not running to restart my computer. Well
I did but it did not work then either.

I checked the Config Utulity by using msconfig in RUN and see that Security
Center is "Stopped". In fact many items are stopped and not "Running". How
does one turn on and item if it is STOPPED?

I am not too computer literate so need step by step help on where to go and
how to do things.

Thanks so much.

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Under the General tab, check "Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services",
click "apply" and reboot.

That works for awhile and then the next thing I notice it is not running
again. The Security Center is STOPPED as are "many" of the other Services
listed.

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Report in the System and
Application over the last 2 days and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

I said to go to Local Services and set the "services" to Automatic, if
possible.
start>run>services.msc

You have posted a number of messages and could well have made a
number of changes since this error occurred. Try reopening the Security
Center and see if you get exactly the same Error Report.

Ok that got it started. I hope it stays running. So far today it seems when I
get a Generic Host Processes error it shuts if off again when I restart.
