Some questions - help

In the realm of Moviemaker 2 and Photostory 3 - everything was going well
until my computer crashed
several weeks ago, and had to be sent in for repairs.

I was in the middle of making Photo Story excerpts for a
movie which I intended to burn to DVD's for my kids for Christmas.

Whilst I had backups they managed to save all my data
including projects, wmv files etc on my second drive, and saved some the
data from my maindrive to a file called "Old data".

Then they installed a newer version of Windows XP.
This has caused problems - my scanner does not work properly etc, and I have
had to reinstall some programs.

My questions are:

1. I have Photo Story 3 and would like to download the
latest version 3.1. Can I do this and still work on my
projects already compiled in 3.

2. Do I have to uninstall 3 in this case.

3. And re Movie Maker, I had downloaded quite a few
codecs I needed, and have forgotten where to find them.
Could someone point me in the right direction.

I am crossing my fingers that Nero will work successfully.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

===================================
Version 3.1 is only available as a component
of MS Digital Image 2006 Library. Unlike PS
version 3... PS version 3.1 can burn VCDs.

If you install MS Digital Image 2006 Library...
the 3.1 version of PhotoStory will install
separately from PhotoStory 3. IOW...you
can run both programs.

Personally, I wouldn't install any codecs
unless I was sure I needed them. Maybe
some of the more experienced pros will
offer some guidance here.
