Some Files NOT visible in Word, but visible in Explorer.

Hello Everyone,

I have an extremely peculiar problem. 2 MS Word 97
documents created by my supervisor are not showing up in
Word. When he goes to FILE > OPEN... they are invisible.
But if Windows Explorer is used, they show up as they
should.

Exhaustive search of Microsoft Technet yields no results.

Please advise and thank you,

Do these files have a .doc file extension? Is the File Open dialog set to
All Files?
