Some E-Mail Attachments I send are not able to be opened

If I originate an email message in Outlook 2002 which includes a .doc
attachment, the attachment appears in the body of the e-mail, and many of the
recipients are not able to open the attachment. If I reply to an email, and
if my reply contains a .doc attachment, the attachment appears up with the
address boxes, and the recipient is able to open the attachment.

What's going on?

You're sending in Rich Text format, which only another Outlook user can
open. Send your messages in Plain Text ot HTML.
