Some contacts not visible

G

Gary Kalosky

Scenario:
Outlook 2003
User adds new contact.
User adds new distribution list, but when he tries to add that contact it is
not visible, but other contacts are.
Contact is visible in the contacts folder, just not through the selection
folders.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Are the email addresses valid and resolved for the Contacts not appearing?
Is there more than one Contacts Folder in this profile?

The contacts have valid email addresses.

Sounds like you need to add an email address to the new contact.

The email addresses are valid. I even webexed into his system and added
myself as a contact with an email address and I was not visible.

There is a contacts folder in the exchange mailbox and one in the pst area.
They are both available for selection and we can view contacts in both.
This happening with new contacts added in the exchange contact folder. The
data is syncing fine and I could view it from his system while he was
disconnected from the exchange server and also I accessed his mailbox and
was able to see it myself. I can enter a new contact on my system that has
the same setup and I don't have this issue.

Aha. There was much more to this story you should have included. I can't
help since the problem is with Exchange. I'd ask in an Exchange group.
Prepare to defend the decision to use a PST with Exchange. That may be part
of the problem.

The problem is not with Exchange, it is with Outlook. A contact stored
locally should be available in all views and it is not. You can see it in
the folder, but when trying to build a distribution list, it cannot be seen,
while other contacts stored locally can. If it was a contact stored on the
Exchange server and not available offline, that would be a different issue.
The pst use with exhange for personal emails is not unusual and does not
come into play here.

I still maintain that you should be asking this question in an Exchange
group since using PST's with Exchange is not recommended. Accordingly, few
people would have experience with this scenario and the idiosyncrasies it
would introduce.
