Solver or not Solver

Hello
I use "solver " to calculate a formula. I need to send the woorkshet to
different people and they will have to use solver. Here are some of the
problems. Some of the users do not have the solver add in- ,some have excel
2000, some excel 2002 and others excel 2003. Is there a formula that I can
use instead of solver? thanks

It depends entirely on what you are using Solver to solve. It may
well be possible to write the workbook such that Solver is not
required, but that depends on what is being calculated and what that
calculation depends on.

Much more detail is required.

Explanation
3,925 is the price of the component
3500 is what the customer is willing to pay.
first item for 1,000 cannot be discounted
so I want to apply a discount that would equal the total amount the
customer wants to spend

Hi. From what I see, there are no constraints on the discounts, so
there are an infinite number of ways to allocate your discounts.
How about a constant discount rate?

1000 + 2925*d = 3500

Solving, your 'd' is about 0.85470085

or stated maybe as (1-0.85470085) = 0.14529915

or about 14.53% discount.
