Software often won't install unless you follow the correct
procedure.
Best suggestion, use the device manager to remove the modem,
which will un-install what ever driver may be present. Make
sure you have the latest modem driver for your modem, at
least any driver that shipped with your modem. XP probably
has the correct or at least a usable driver for most modems,
including V.92 types, after you remove the modem with device
manager (you must be using an administrator account),
re-boot and the "new" modem will be detected and installed.
