I am logged on to a workstation as administrator. When I
attempt to install the client on a Win XP workstation
with SP1a, I get the following error message: "Microsoft
Windows Update Auto Update requires Windows 2000 SP2 or
Windows XP." It appears to not be recognizing the
current OS. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi

You are mis-interpreting the error message (and you aren't the first one, it's
badly worded). Wuau22.msi can *only* be installed on Win2k SP2 and Win XP Gold
(SP0). All newer versions has the SUS client already installed, you only need
to configure the client to start using your SUS server (for details, see
chapter "Configuring the Automatic Updates client software" in the "Software
Update Services Deployment White Paper" downloadable from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/windowsupdate/sus/default.asp :-)

Fyi, there is a separate newsgroup for SUS:

microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs

URL to the group softwareupdatesvcs for those who uses the Web
interface to access the newsgroups:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsser...t.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs

A Web site about SUS with a FAQ and a SUS forum:
http://www.susserver.com/
