software to limit HOURS per day usage?

W

wayne

A friend of mine has a daughter that is using her computer too much.
However due to their schedule she does not want to limit her usage to say
6-8PM but to any x hours each day? I have not heard of or seen software that
allows you to limit usage per day by time> Has anyone here seen anything
to do this?

Thanks

Wayne

Yeah, if the father is incapable of reasoning with his daughter he could
pull the plug out of the wall, disconnect the Internet connection, unplug
the monitor, etc.

For some requirements, your friend may find it easier to invest in a
3rd-party solution, such as NetNanny or CyberPatrol.

You need to be aware, however, that *NO* technical or software
solution is fool-proof, and _none_ can ever adequately take the place
of live parental supervision. If your friend cannot trust his/her
daughter to safely/properly use the computer without supervision, he/she
may have to consider limiting her access to it.

Use bolt cutters.

Personally, I think that's a bit harsh. And who knows, maybe later
in life the kid will need all her fingers.

Cut the Internet cables!!! Not the fingers.

The daughter could still use the computer for doing her homework???

Hi

Some programs that looks like being able to do this:

1st Security Center
http://www.1securitycenter.com/sc/index.html

<quote>
The powerful feature "User Working Time" allows you to limit working
time for your children , office colleagues , students and so on. You
can define several time intervals and time durations to manage users
working time very easy.
</quote>

User Time Control
http://www.1securitycenter.com/utcc/index.html

<quote>
It allows you to set limits on how much time your child spends on the
computer or online. User Time Control Center lets you specify when
exactly and how long the computer can be used and define users which
will be allowed to use the computer without any limits.
</quote>

WatchDog
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Lockdown/WatchDog.shtml

<quote>
WatchDog 8.3 is the ultimate application to restrict and monitor the
time that you or others spend on the computer. Each user can have
their timing period based on daily, weekly, monthly or unlimited.
WatchDog's security measures block out unauthorized access completely.
