Software to help layout maximum images to suit printer paper size?

I am getting a number of varying sized images printed at a local prolab.

There paper width is MAX 750mm and they charge by the actual length of the
full width paper used.

So if I want only a 300 x 200 then I am charged for the price of a 750 x
200. I am better getting 3 or 4 similarly sized images for the same price
since they will still only use up 750 x 200 on their paper.

Is there a program (preferably freeware) that will allow be to determine the
best fit for my
images so I can get the maximum number of images to ensure I am not charged
for blank space?

regards

This program might be helpful. Don't get your hopes too high though. I
tried it a long time ago and wasn't overly impressed (don't recall the
details).

Program: Photo Paper Saver
Author: Veena Jayaram
Ware: (Liteware)

Photo Paper Saver v1.5.3.9

This program lets you make lots of photo reprints quickly, easily, and
save money at the same time. The program will automatically layout all
your different prints using the LEAST amount of space so you waste less
photo paper when you cut them out.

Well, I can understand your reservations. This program isn't freeware.
It's classified as shareware in a txt file in the download. It's also
16-bit. But other than that, it works ok in a pinch if you need only 10
photos max printed at a time on Windows 98. You can get a nice fit of
photos in different sizes on a couple pages of photo paper. I wouldn't
pay $20 to get the 10 photos limit removed.

Yabbut - as we all know :) authors' ware descriptions aren't always the
same as ours. It's "Liteware" per our ACF Ware Glossary definitions. The
registration page says this:

http://www.fpdoctor.com/pps/register/register-j-0-5.html

<q>
Reasons Why You Should Register Now:

* The registered version will print more pages.
* Get free upgrades and usage through version v2.9.9.9 (it's at v1.5.3.9
right now).
* Start saving paper and money!
</q>

The line between Liteware and Crippleware is often in the eye of the
beholder. ;)

OTOH when there are licensing restrictions an app can be *both* $ware
and Freeware. If an app is free for personal use but payware for other
uses it can be *accurately* described as either 1. Freeware (free for
personal use) 2. Shareware (free for personal use).

IOW - you sometimes have to look at what the author *means* when (s)he
says Freeware or Shareware - not just at their ware *label*.
