Software or Hardware Issue?

Hi ,
I have a computer with win xp pro/sp2 with all current updates.
My problem is that my when my computer goes into sleep mode, alot of the
time it has to be rebooted instead of just waking up.
I have the screen saver set to start after 5 minutes, and the power is set
to Home/Office Desk and turn off monitor to 10 minutes with all other
settings set to Never. Also, hybernating is turned off.
Is this a software issue or is there a hard ware issue? I have an onboard
video but have recently disabled that and installed an ATI card instead with
the same issue.

Any suggestions?

Hi Lorne,

Usually it's a device driver issue. One or more of them either don't support
that state, or are in conflict with one another. Updating to the latest
releases for your hardware may help, but sometimes there is no way of
resolving it. If you update, use the device manufacturer's driver sets, not
the ones found on Windows Update (which sometimes are the same, but
sometimes are just basic drivers to provide basic functionality).

Hi,

"Which" is the biggest problem with this issue - there's no easy way of
knowing.

Probably not, start with motherboard, nic, mouse, and keyboard.
