software doesn't work

I just bought a new computer with Windows Vista hoping to use one particular
software program called Finale 2006. It downloaded okay . . . and it starts
up okay .. . but then the program doesn't work. It stops and says that
Windows cannot run the program . . . and if a solution becomes available, it
will let me know.

I have 14 days in which to return this computer. Is there something I can to
do to rectify this, or should I return the computer? I've also contacted the
company that designed the software. I was able to run this program with
Windows XP but if I can't run it with Vista . . . .then there's no point in
having Vista.

I'd have checked with the Software maker *before* getting Vista. It's
much less hassle. :)

You downloaded software without first checking it's system requirements. If
you had, you would know that Finale is not yet Vista compatible. That is
not the fault of Microsoft or the manufacturer of your new computer. It is
the fault of the company that makes Finale.

Take the computer back, if your want. You will pay a re-stocking fee, and
you will not be able to find a computer with Windows XP on it.

You should have done the research *before* buying a Vista based computer.

Well, if you contacted the software manufacturer and they have no intention
of making their customers happy by patching their program, or releasing a
newer version, I guess you know what your answer is already.

Go back to XP. Vista isn't for everyone at this time.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

Thank you for your reply but i cannot believe how many people have told me
that I should have checked the system requirements first. Contrary to popular
belief . . . not everyone knows a lot about computers I'm reallly struggling
with this. I came on here to try and find help. . .. and yes, I did ask the
man in the store if it would work and I showed him the system requirements .
.. . and he told me it would.
A little compassion would be nice.

Mathew,

Compassion is not going to solve your problem. A bit of work, or a decision
on your part will.

1. Set the computer up to dual boot Windows XP and run your non-compliant
program from there.

2. Hound the program manufacturer for a Vista upgrade, and wait until
they comply.

3. Take your computer back for a refund, as you can not use it with your
program.

Other than that, I'm sorry for your problem! (compassion extended)

Try running the installer and the program as administrator by right clicking
on the icon and selecting "Run as Administrator". Also, try right clicking
on the icon, selecting properties, opening the "compatibility" tab, and
setting it in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2.

Also, be sure to follow up with the program developer. Hopefully they will
contact you soon.
