Okay first close Word and Outlook and then do a CTRL+ALT+DEL and select Task
Manager then select the Processes Tab and make sure that you dont see
Outlook.exe or WINWord.exe, if you do see them running then highlight them
and select End Task. Then search for Normal.dot and this is usually located
under your user profile in Document and Settings, once you have found it
them either rename or delete. Then start Word or Outlook and see what
does.

help me anymore, I can understand. Can you give me a step by step
instruction how to do that? Thanks!
Noel All said:When you renamed or deleted it did you make sure that Outlook and Word
were
closed and not being listed in the running processes of Task Manager. It
is
usually located in your user profile under Document and Settings, but you
should be able to check that its the right one by the modified date and
time.
MButler said:Maybe I'm dumb, but where do I find the normal.dot document....I found
it
by
searching the files and did what you suggested, but am still getting a
J
when
I type . This is very frustrating! Thanks for trying...any other
help?
:
Longshot I would rename or delete Normal.dot, be warned though that if
you
delete it then any customisation of the normal word template will be
lost,
maybe better renaming it so you can restore it if my suggestion didn't
work.
Yes...I have the box checked that uses Word as the email editor.
:
As Milly suggested you are using Word as the email editor.
It is set to HTML text....not Plain Text. Thanks for
answering...any
other
suggestions?
:
Check that the email message format is not set to Plain Text
When I type , it does not convert it to a smiley face...I
have
checked
the
autocorrect entries and it comes up with a J in my email. I'm
going
crazy...any help? Thanks.
:
If you use Word as your editor in Outlook 2002 or 2003, it
will
convert
the
Colon + End Parentheses into a smiley every time.
