The first initial of my first name is not capitolized. How to I change it. I
have been to the TOOLS-AUTOCORRECTOPTIONS-etc, but can not find anything
about changes
thank you in advance for your help

To add an AutoCorrect entry, enter "howeey" in the "Replace" box and
"Howeey" in the "with" box and click on "Add".

Alternatively, if you use "Automatically accept spelling suggestions" you
might get it to change by adding "Howeey" to your custom dictionary but the
rules are rather complicated and I wouldn't rely on it if I were you.

If your name with the lc "h" isn't being inserted by an actual AC Entry
perhaps you have it incorrectly typed in Tools>Options - User Info?

First of all thanks for your response.
That part is OK.
What happens is if I begin typing Howard, without a capital "H", then a
light goldenrod color will appear above the name that says "(Press ENTER to
Insert)
Can you offer any further help?

First of all thank you for your input.
I have gone the route you suggested, and it has "kindof" helped, however,
what is still appearing is ----when I type howard,-- during the middle of the
name, ---a goldernrod color tag will appear that says 'howard, (Press ENTER
to Insert).
I believe that is called a "Smart Tag" by MS. Is that not so/
thanks

No, that is an AutoComplete tip, which indicates that the name is saved as
an AutoText entry. The entries on the User Information tab of Tools |
Options are automatically treated as AutoText entries. Check the spelling of
your name in the Options.

The way you suggested worked. Thank you thank you, It did work!!!!! In WORD
!!!!!
Can I assume that MS OUTLOOK will also pick this up change since it was
happening in not only WORD (which is now corrected) but in OUTLOOK?

Suzanne,

I have Tony Jollans as my User Name and as an AutoText entry (although I
don't remember setting it) but if I change my user name - and reboot to be
sure - I don't get my new user name as an AutoText or offered as one or
automatically corrected in any way. Am I missing a trick? Word 2000 on Win
2000.

Good question. When you closed Word, were you prompted to save Normal.dot?
(Presumably not, but you would be if an AutoText entry had been changed.) It
may be that the AutoText entries are created only when you initially install
the program and enter your name, company name, etc. I am positive I never
created AutoText entries for my name or company name, yet these AT entries
exist, so Word must have created them automatically at some point. I wonder
whether, if you changed the user name in the Registry, this would be
reflected in a change in the AutoText.

I *think* (no guarantees) that this is an entry Word creates the first time
you start a new installation and are prompted for the user name and
initials. (Probably one of the reasons you get prompted to save Normal.dot
the first time Word is started, too.)

I have done a bit of digging on this.

When you install Office you have to give a registered owner name and
company; this is saved in a Windows registry key related to the
installation. When you start an Office program for the first time as a user
you are asked for your Office user name; this is stored in an Office
registry key.

When you start Word for the first time (I renamed my Word registry key to
simulate this - renaming normal.dot does not trigger it) the Office User
Name and the registered Company name are added as AutoText entries to
normal.dot (either a newly created one or an existing one). This is a
one-time operation so if you want to change anything later you have to force
a registry key renewal - with concomitant initialisation that you may not
want - or explicitly change each of the things you want in your normal.dot.

Enjoy,
Tony

Thanks for the research, Tony. This confirms what Cindy and I suspected.
