Smart panel epson 1260 photo

For one reason or other I had to reload software for the scanner, now I
can't reload the Smart Panel. I receive the error message "A previous
version of epson smart panel has been detected. The installation program
needs to remove the previous version" Of course after saying yes it
does not remove the previous version. I've removed the USB and power
cables, all references to epson in the computer and also removed the
software in the register referring to epson and twain 5. No Go. I do get
some kind of scan program (not very smart) but it is not Smart Panel.
Any ideas. Thanks

Forgot to mention. Windows ME
