Smart Device Authentication won't connect serially

I've been able to use the SDAuth utility on wireless devices, but have
had no luck connecting serially or USB. The device assigns itself an
address of 192.168.55.something. How do I get the serial connection to
route to my PC?

PS- I always set up as a guest. Is this the issue?
 
SDAuth uses Ethernet so you can't use it over serial or USB.
