In XP Home, if I enable small icons for the classic start menu, they revert
back to large icons after log off/log on or reboot. I have had a browse
through the registry but could not find anything.

Can someone offer a solution?

Apologies if this post appears twice. I posted it through my ISP's feed
however as it hasn't appeared on Microsoft server after 4+ hours, I am
posting again direct to MS server.

Just a thought, are you on a network or are there
different user accounts on your computer? Could there be
a conflict between your settings and admin settings?

Hi Bob,

See if this helps and good luck!

Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Thanks Kelly. The first section of the REG file did the trick. It wasn't
necessary to run Systray.exe which I never have running.

I wonder how the registry setting got changed? It wasn't me. :-) Actually,
last week I was playing about with the XP Start Menu (I normally use the
Classic one) and the start menu and explorer locked up. I shutdown Explorer
and restarted it so I guess this may have caused the registry error.

The registry is modified all the time. It's essentially the database of
what's on your PC and what you do. Sort of like the card catalog at your
local library.
